200 new affordable dorm-style units will be opening in Reno this fall. Our contributor, Kaleb Roedel with the Northern Nevada Business View has the details.
The housing units are expected to open in late November, located at the corners of Fourth and Sage streets.
During the next two months, nine semi-trucks will shuttle and deliver the units from central Wyoming to Northern Nevada. The units formerly housed gas and oil workers in Big Piney, Wyoming.
Renters are expected to pay around $400 per month. The program units are designed for working individuals 18 years and older, making a salary amount between $1,300 and $3,000 a month.
The 90-square-foot units are built for single-occupancy and will include a bed, closet, desk and a flat-screen TV. Residents will use shared restrooms as well as a 4,000-square-foot kitchen facility.
According to the Community Foundation, the project has received $5.8 million in funding in a two-month span. However, the project still needs $2.5 million more in contributions.
