Changing Of The Guard At TMCC

Leadership will soon change hands at Truckee Meadows Community College. Reno Public Radio's Michelle Bliss has the details.

With current president Maria Sheehan retiring early next year, the Nevada Board of Regents is hiring Kyle Dalpe to take over her post until TMCC makes a permanent hire. As the school's chief of staff, Dalpe has worked side-by-side with Sheehan.

"She has been president at TMCC during the worst economic times in the state," Dalpe says, "and yet, we still have been able to push forward, raise funds, develop programs. These are milestones that just keep us moving forward."

Dalpe expects his appointment to last for about six months while a national search takes place.

The school is in a time of growth and transition, and Dalpe says his goal is to support those changes:

"Our enrollment is up the first time this fall since 2009. We're starting to see some indicators bounce back. I really want to keep this momentum going."

By accepting the interim role, Dalpe is now ineligible to apply for the permanent position. Once that hire is made, he'll return to being chief of staff, offering support to the school's next president.
