A recent report shows Nevada has the safest bridges in the country.
The American Road and Transportation Builders Association reports that of the state's 19-hundred public bridges only two-percent have structural problems. That's the lowest rate in the nation.
Meg Ragonese with the state Department of Transportation says Nevada's warm, dry weather helps maintain this structural integrity.
"We in Nevada and our neighboring states, of course, have a different climate, a drier climate, that helps sustain the bridge infrastructure a little more than wet climates."
Ragonese says all bridges in the state are inspected every two years, while bridges with extensive deterioration are inspected more often. She adds that a bridge said to be structurally deficient can still be safe to drive on, but more than likely, is not up to modern construction standards.
