The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority—or RSCVA—votedlast week to remove its president and CEO. But the agency is ready to get on with business. Reno Public Radio’s Anh Gray reports the board voted unanimously today on an interim leader.
Jennifer Cunningham is the RSCVA’s interim managing director overseeing the day-to-day operations. She’s been on the RSCVA executive staff, heading up the agency’s marketing department. With three decades of experience, she already knows the ins-and-outs of the region’s tourism industry.
RSCVA Chairman of the Board and Washoe County Commissioner Bob Lucey says in the past it has taken six months to a year to recruit a new president and CEO.
“Whoever that person is, I would hope would be able to get on board and be a true leader and help align everybody as we move forward," Lucey says. "The RSCVA sits at a unique position, at a time to really take us into that next evolution.”
“In the past, too, this board has really been set by a lot of gaming and now more than ever, people are wanting to see a little bit of diversification," board member Mayor Hillary Schieve says. "We have a great food scene, we have one of the best landscapes in the country for outdoor recreation.”
Schieve is one of four board members chosen to be a part of a seven-person search committee to recruit the next leader. The other three people will come from the local business community.
