Opponents have dropped a lawsuit against the SouthEast Connector — a major road project that will link Sparks to south Reno. Reno Public Radio's Julia Ritchey reports.
A coalition of community activists filed the suit, accusing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Washoe County's Regional Transportation Commission of not adequately examining the project's environmental impact.
After twice failing to win a preliminary injunction this year, the coalition voluntarily withdrew its legal action on Wednesday.
In a ruling earlier this month, U.S. District Court Judge John Mendez said the transportation agency had appropriately adopted environmental mitigation measures and properly involved the public in the process.
The five-and-a-half mile roadway is already under construction. The $290 million project is expected to be completed by late 2017.
