KUNR reported that coworking spaces are conducive to sparking new business ventures. Reno Public Radio’s Anh Gray talks with a local expert to learn how his organization is using these spaces to recruit entrepreneurs.
The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada—or EDAWN—fields many questions from business owners looking to move to the Reno-Sparks area. Doug Erwin is with the agency and he gives tours of coworking spaces, like the downtown Reno Collective, to entice out-of-towners.
“A lot of times, people are looking for talent, and a lot of magic happens in these coworking spaces,” Erwin says. “So even if it’s not full-time talent, they can find someone to work on a project.”
Erwin says that local coworking spaces make the region more competitive.
“I think one of the big things, especially people from tier one markets from the Bay Area or New York,” Erwin says, “it makes them feel comfortable because that’s the kind of environment they’re use to, so to know that’s something that exists in our community, I think gives them comfort that they made the right choice.”
