The Reno Arts and Culture Commission is considering creating an artist-in-residence program within the city. Our contributor Kaleb Roedel of the Northern Nevada Business View has the details.
The idea would be to pair artists with different government departments in Reno.
The program would be modeled after one in Boston that hires artists to explore how to use art and media to bolster city initiatives.
The Boston program paid artists around 27-thousand dollars, plus another $12,000 for materials, during an 11-month residency.
Over the years, Reno has gained a reputation as a city that supports the arts.
Citywide, around $89 million was spent in Reno on arts and culture in 2016. That's more than double the national average.
The city also has nearly 140 pieces in its public art collection, valued around $3.5 million.
