With a presidential election looming, about a quarter of a million people have registered to vote in Washoe County. Reno Public Radio’s Anh Gray reports
So far, more people have registered to vote in this election than in the last two presidential cycles. Luanne Cutler is with the Washoe County Registrar of Voters.
“We are at one of the highest points in time that we’ve ever seen with numbers of registered voters,” Cutler says.
Cutler says that it’s not unusual to get more registrations during a presidential election. She's anticipating better than usual voter turnout.
“There’s typically between 78 and 80 percent turnout,” Cutler explains, “in a presidential year.”
Right now, more than 95 thousand Republicans are registered to vote in Washoe County with Democrats trailing behind by about five thousand fewer registrations. Nonpartisan voters make up less than 50 thousand.
Early voting starts October 22nd and goes through November 4th.
