Next week, the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees will hold a meeting to determine if Superintendent Traci Davis willfully, or through gross negligence, leaked confidential information pertaining to a lawsuit. Davis denies the allegations. The meeting will cap-off weeks of speculation and heated controversy between Davis and the district. KUNR's Paul Boger sat down with the board's president Katy Simon Holland to get her side of the story.
The President of the Washoe County School Board of Trustees says she believes there is more than enough evidence to prove the allegations.
"A CEO, or any supervisor, has a duty that when there is a confidential reporter, to keep that confidential report secure. But an individual who directly reported to the superintendent, and was close to the superintendent and a relative of [someone] who was under investigation, had access to that report within days.”
The board will decide next week whether to fire Davis or take other disciplinary actions. However, Board President Katy Simon Holland says she believes the case will ultimately end up in a legal battle.
“She’s being provided with due process that she’s not actually entitled to. Her contract, her employment agreement, specifically says she’s not entitled to due process in the termination of her employment. Her remedy is to go to the district court, which I am sure she will do."
A request for comment was sent to the lawyer for Superintendent Traci Davis, but that request was declined; however, Davis's lawyer did provide a copy of their official response to the district's allegations.
