While other tragedies and national disasters have taken over the headlines, Ebola remains a serious and persistent global concern.

Dr. David AuCoin is a microbiology professor at the University of Nevada School of Medicine who is working in partnership with a Canadian virologist to develop an important point-of-care rapid diagnostic test for Ebola. The testing uses no Ebola sample or human virus, so no risk of exposure exists in this process.

AuCoin visited about his research and the global impact of infectious diseases and viral threats with University of Nevada, Reno President Marc Johnson on KUNR's Beyond the Headlines. (Interviewed by David Stipech; air date 5-22-15.)
