A lot is at stake for education in the Washoe County School District. Four out of seven school board seats are up for grabs, and a measure on the November ballot proposes to raise hundreds of millions to help alleviate school overcrowding. Reno Public Radio’s Anh Gray sits down with a local political scientist who says voter frustration could play into these races.
Political scientist Fred Lokkenis with Truckee Meadows Community College. He says the large pool of candidates demonstrates the public’s dissatisfaction with the school board after years of controversies and turmoil.
“There is an anger level and this is the election about anger isn’t it? We’re hearing about it at the national level; we’re certainly seeing it in this race,” Lokken says.
