NPR has announced that it will end production of Talk of the Nation as of June 27.

Here & Now began airing as the midday news magazine July 1, from 11 am -1 pm, replacing Talk of the Nation, which ended production June 27. Originating in Boston at WBUR, Here & Now is public radio's daily news magazine, bringing you the news that breaks after Morning Edition and before All Things Considered. Emmy- and Peabody-award winning Robin Young brings more than 25 years of broadcast experience to her role as host of Here & Now. Co-host Jeremy Hobson worked for Marketplace for six years and was also a producer for NPR's All Things Considered and Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! in addition to experience as a reporter for several NPR member stations. NPR announced earlier this year that production of Talk of the Nation would not continue after June 2013. This is a decision that NPR in Washington, DC, has made. Reno Public Radio did not make this decision. NPR is redirecting its resources to support news coverage through the middle of the day - rather than call-in talk programming. This means that NPR is focusing its resources on producing programs that include interviews and reported segments like you hear on Morning Edition, rather than call-in talk programming like Talk of the Nation. Talk of the Nation explored perspectives on the day's news and current issues rather than report the news. After 35 years at NPR, and 11 years at the helm of Talk of the Nation, Neal Conan is stepping away from the demands hosting of the daily two-hour, live daily program.
