Middle childhood.

Middle Childhood begins around 5-6 and continues through teenage years. Kids begin to understand abstract concepts, grow, and understand. They realize others have minds of their own, needs of their own, and become aware of fairness and justice. During these years, parents have the opportunity to give children more responsibility. Due to their additional ability to make connections in their brain we should use this time to teach kids frustration tolerance and the pleasure of accomplishing tasks. We want our kids to have a good work ethic. Give kids chores and take the time to enforce the new chore. This week, Dr. Jankovich talks about the importance of follow through and using this time in childhood development wisely on this week's edition of Relationships. Dr. Rebecca Jankovich airs Thursday mornings on 88.7 FM, KUNR, and can be reached at 775-322-1839.
