Traveling from NYC to D.C. on Amtrak's Acela — the fastest trains in the U.S.

The fastest trains in the U.S. are now running along the Northeast Corridor.

Amtrak’s new Acela trains can hit 160 miles per hour, but on the busy route between Boston and Washington, D.C., they don’t stay at that top speed for long.

NPR transportation correspondent Joel Rose took a ride aboard the first train from New York to Washington, D.C.
