Nevada casinos have won $864 million in September to post a 5.9 percent decrease compared with the same month last year. The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported Wednesday that the Las Vegas Strip posted a 5.7 percent drop from last year with $491 million in winnings. Downtown Las Vegas winnings dropped 2.7 percent, and South Lake Tahoe casino winnings fell 14.4 percent. Reno casinos saw an uptick, winning $49 million in September to bring in 2.6 percent more than a year ago. Elko County casinos also saw their numbers rise about 8 percent, bringing in $23 million. The $51.4 million collected in taxes last month was a drop of 8.9 percent. Casino taxes account for about a third of Nevada's general fund revenues.
