As part of the occasional series "Musicians in Their Own Words," double-bassist and composer Edgar Meyer describes his music.

Meyer, 42, won a Grammy Award with Yo-Yo Ma and Mark O'Connor in 2001 for their album Appalachian Journey. In 2002, the Nashville native with a love for both bluegrass and classical music, was selected to receive a MacArthur Foundation "genius grant" of $500,000 over five years.
