APM Terminates Keillor Contracts
To our public radio listening audience,
Last Wednesday (11/29), public media stations around the country received disappointing news regarding radio icon Garrison Keillor. He has been terminated by Minnesota Public Radio (MPR).
This decision will impact two programs carried on Reno Public Radio: The Writer's Almanac and A Prairie Home Companion.
The Writer's Almanac (formerly Monday - Friday, 6:46 a.m. and 8:46 a.m.) was canceled immediately by the program distributors and thus will no longer be heard on our air. The Best of A Prairie Home Companion archive shows that have been airing on Sundays on KUNR will be replaced with the current version of the show. A Prairie Home Companion (Saturday, 6 p.m. and Sunday, noon) will now be referred to as The Chris Thile Show (working title). Thile will address the changed circumstances in his opening monologue airing this weekend, December 2-3.
Please continue to visit KUNR.org for any further updates. For more information, please see the official statement from American Public Media in its website post here. To share your feedback with American Public Media in the wake of these developments, click here.
This matter is difficult for all involved, so we are grateful for your understanding and support. Garrison Keillor has provided weekly entertainment for millions of adoring fans over four decades. His importance in the growth in popularity of public radio cannot be overestimated and his presence on the airwaves will be greatly missed.
Many of you have expressed an opinion on APM's announcement, or an appreciation for Garrison Keillor. KUNR is impacted by these developments just as you are. As your local station, we welcome your comments here.
Thank you for your trust in us.
Sincerely,
David Stipech
General Manager, KUNR
