Reno Airport Adds Rideshare Pickup For Uber Customers

Rideshare company Uber is now allowed to pick up passengers at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

Uber has been able to drop off customers at the airport since September, when they began operating in the state. But until Wednesday, they weren't able to pick anyone up.

Now, the rideshare service has a contract with the airport, like other ground transportation services, and its own designated pickup spot — away from the taxi line — complete with transit shelter.

At a press conference Wednesday, airport staff blared music as airport authority CEO Marily Mora grabbed a ride with two mascots from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Mora says the number one question she's been asked lately is when Uber would be available.

"Customers have been waiting for this and our passenger numbers are on the increase here at Reno-Tahoe because of all the economic activity in our community and, of course, we’re having a fabulous snow season,” she says. “It's just great timing to have this customer convenience available."

Mora says they're in talks with other rideshare services such as Lyft and hope to come to agreement with them soon.
