Applegate Fire disrupts traffic on I-80, forces evacuation

UPDATE Thursday 8:30 AM:

A fire near Applegate in Placer County continues to burn on the east side of Interstate 80. The eastbound lanes were temporarily shut down Wednesday because of the blaze. As of this morning, only one lane was open for traffic heading toward Nevada.

The fire is 420 acres and about 20 percent contained. So far, 5 homes have been destroyed and 1,000 structures are currently threatened. An evacuation order still remains in effect for locals in the area.
