The Wolf Pack has a new baseball coach. Jay Johnson will step up to the plate for UNR Monday after spending the last eight seasons as associate head coach at the University of San Diego. The University of Nevada Director of Athletics Doug Knuth made the announcement late Friday. Johnson helped San Diego win four West Coast Conference titles. He also coached the 2013 college baseball player of the year, third baseman Kris Bryant, who was the number two selection in the 2013 Major League Baseball draft for the Chicago Cubs. Johnson was the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator for the University of San Diego. The school's 2008 class, which Johnson helped recruit, was ranked as number one in the nation by Baseball America. The new coach earned a degree in physical education from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2001 and later earned a master's degree in the same field at Azusa Pacific University.
