The Historic Transformation Of Downtown Carson City

Northern Nevada Business Weekly

Throughout the past several months, Carson City’s downtown corridor has been under a flurry of construction in efforts to revitalize and improve the area. Our contributor Brook Bentley of the Northern Nevada Business Weekly has the details.

It's called the Carson Street Urban Design Project, and it's intended to transform the downtown corridor into a community attraction. One major change has been the addition of the Bob McFadden Plaza which opened over the summer and includes a stage for live entertainment.

Another goal is to make downtown more pedestrian and bike-friendly by widening sidewalks and adding five-foot-wide bike lanes. About 100 trees have been planted along those new sidewalks.

Q&D Construction was awarded the $8.1 million contract and broke ground last March. Construction is expected to wrap up by Thanksgiving.
