Francis Humphrey Lecture Series-Chautauqua performance, Lake Tahoe's George and Elia Whittell

Francis Humphrey Lecture Series-Chautauqua performance, Lake Tahoe's George and Elia Whittell

Thursday June 15 at 6:30PM, the Nevada State Museum in Carson city continues its Francis Humphrey lecture series with a Chautauqua performance by local authors and historians David and Gayle Woodruff. The Woodruffs re-enact the characters of George and Elia Whittell, one of the wealthiest couples on the West Coast during the 1920s through 1950s. They kept an African Lion for a pet, owned over 25 miles of Lake Tahoe waterfront, built one of the most beautiful estates on Lake Tahoe’s shore, hosted high stakes poker games with the rich and famous, and unintentionally conserved a large portion of Lake Tahoe lands for the public to enjoy today. This lecture will be presented in person and on Zoom. Admission is $10 for adults, museum members and children age 17 and under are free. Go to https://nsmconnect.nevadaculture.org/ActivityRegistration/652a6850-eaf6-44a7-a152-78d370ae7d8a to reserve a seat.
