I-580 Lane Closures Near Spaghetti Bowl

Nevada Department of Transportation

There will be lane closures south of the Spaghetti Bowl on Interstate 580 in Reno beginning Sunday. Reno Public Radio's Michelle Bliss has details.

Over the next few weeks, night-time closures are scheduled for Sundays through Thursdays as construction crews complete a $12 million project to replace and repair aging concrete between Glendale Avenue and Moana Lane. The on-ramp to Glendale Ave. will be closed during construction, while the on and off ramps for both Mill Street and Plumb Lane will be closed intermittently. The roadway in this area was constructed more than 30 years ago.

Some bridges will also be seismically retrofitted and interchange crossings under the freeway will be upgraded to meet ADA requirements. The entire project should be wrapped up by the fall.

Officials with the Nevada Department of Transportation say the work is critical as the region's population continues to grow. Right now, more than 140,000 vehicles travel this stretch of highway each day.
