Nevada will soon be home to a large-scale public health study focusing on personal genetic information. It's a combined-effort by Renown Health, the Desert Research Institute, and a genetic-testing company called 23andMe.
When the project was first announced, it was initially going to be offered to the first 5,000 qualifying Nevadans who signed up.
Since then, there's been so much interest, that the study has expanded to 10,000 participants.
"The goal is to be able to do this across Nevada," says Joe Grzymski, principal investigator for the study. "And if we were to do that, making significant discoveries in how to take care of diseases with genetic origins or links becomes a possibility."
