Nevada Reports 226 Additional Cases Of COVID-19 And 26 COVID-19-Related Deaths

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services reported 226 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. The department reported 26 additional COVID-19-related deaths statewide. There are nearly 1,500 COVID-19-related deaths in Nevada, and there have been more than 948,000 tests performed in the state.

Washoe County Reports One COVID-19 Death On Tuesday

Washoe County officials reported one COVID-19-related death on Tuesday, a man in his 70s with an underlying health condition. There have now been 150 deaths in Washoe County since the start of the pandemic.
Officials also reported 42 additional cases of COVID-19 and 38 recoveries.
There have been a little more than 124,000 COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County.

Bars In Washoe County Permitted To Open Wednesday, Sept 16 at 11:59 p.m.

Bars in Washoe County are allowed to reopen on Wednesday at 11:59 p.m.
Bars were permitted to reopen for a little over a month in early summer, but in Washoe County, they had to close again in mid-June due to rising COVID-19 cases and reports of some bars not following safety guidelines.
For their second reopening, staff members are required to be screened for COVID-19 before work and must wear a mask their entire shift.
Bars must operate at 50% capacity. Only six people are allowed per table and only three people can be seated at the bar. Interactive games and congregate areas that are not essential for preparation and services are to remain closed.

COVID-19 Testing And Flu Vaccine Available For Quad-Counties Residents

The Carson City Health and Human Services will be offering COVID-19 testing and flu vaccination events for Quad-County residents throughout October.
Quad-Counties residents can receive both a flu vaccine, and a COVID-19 test, or one of the two.
COVID-19 testing is free. The flu vaccine will cost $20 for those who are uninsured or underinsured, but no one will be turned away if they cannot pay.
Appointments are not required.

Flu Shot Clinics Available On Three Days In Washoe County

With flu season around the corner, The Washoe County Health District will be offering drive-thru flu shot clinics over three days next week at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center.
Officials are asking people to bring their insurance cards, but immunizations are free for those who are uninsured. Appointments are not required.
Dates and times for the Washoe County Health District’s drive-thru flu shot events:
- Saturday, Sept. 19, 9 a.m. to noon
- Tuesday, Sept. 22, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, Sept. 23, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
If you are not able to attend the Washoe County Health District’s drive-thru flu shot events, you can schedule an appointment at the Health District Immunization clinic by calling 775-328-2402.

UNR Reports 127 COVID-19 Cases, Announces Virtual Ceremonies For All 2020 Grads

The University of Nevada, Reno has reported that 127 people on campus have tested positive for COVID-19 in September, a majority of whom are students.
Additionally, UNR officials recently announced that December and August 2020 graduates will have virtual graduation commencements. UNR officials say it is unlikely that large gatherings will be allowed for quite some time.
UNR Provost Kevin Carman also sent a letter to students informing them that the university will continue using the HyFlex model through the end of Spring 2021. This means classes with 35 students or more enrolled will be taught remotely and for courses with fewer people, students will rotate being in the classroom.

Quad Counties Report Ten New Cases Of COVID-19 On Monday

Carson City Health and Human Services reported ten new cases and sixteen additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region on Monday. This brings the total number of cases to 1,154, with 1,048 recoveries and fifteen deaths. There are 91 active cases.
Elko County Reports Over 11,000 COVID-19 Tests Since April

Elko County has tested over 11,000 people for COVID-19 since the beginning of April. There have been 895 confirmed cases and 833 recoveries. Fifty-four cases remain active, and eight people have died.

Nevada Reports Four New COVID-19 Related Deaths Monday

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services reported under 300 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday The department reported four additional coronavirus related deaths statewide.
There are 1,460 COVID-19-related deaths in Nevada, and there have been more than 945,000 tests performed in the state.
Washoe County reported 65 new COVID-19 cases and 64 recoveries on Monday.
There are a little more than 1,200. The county has surpassed 8,000 total cases. The death toll is 149.
Nevada Officials Project COVID-19 Uptick From Trump Rallies

Nevada health officials say they expect to see an uptick in new coronavirus cases after President Donald Trump held rallies in the state over the weekend. Thousands of mostly mask-less supporters attended the rallies in Minden on Saturday and Henderson on Sunday, which violated Nevada directives capping at 50 the number of people who can attend public gatherings. The rally in Henderson was the first indoor event Trump has held since a mid-June arena event in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Nevada has reported more than 73,800 coronavirus cases and nearly 1,460 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
MGM Resorts Adopts Smoke-Free Policy For Vegas Strip Casino

One of the last Las Vegas Strip resorts to reopen after coronavirus closures will be the first to be smoke-free. MGM Resorts International announced Monday that Park MGM will prohibit tobacco smoke inside when it opens Sept. 30. The hotel’s executive says guests have long asked for a non-smoking casino in Las Vegas. Park MGM is the remodeled and renamed former Monte Carlo. The move is a turning point in a city where tourists can light up even if they can't at home. A history professor says COVID-19 has forced rethinking about a lot of things, and smoking may be one of them.
Senator Catherine Cortez Masto Urges The FCC To Expedite BroadBand To Tribal Lands

Nevada Democratic U.S Senator Catherine Cortez Masto has joined fellow Democratic Senate Committee on Indian Affair colleagues in calling on the Federal Communications Commission to expedite broadband connectivity to native communities. The rush to get internet access comes as the pandemic continues to complicate telemedicine, online education and teleworking. According to the FCC, less than half of households on Tribal land have access to fixed broadband. In 2018, the FCC estimated 35 percent of Americans living on tribal lands lacked access to broadband services compared to eight percent of all Americans.

Quad Counties Report Five New Cases Of COVID-19 On Sunday

Carson City Health and Human Services reported five new cases and twelve additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region on Sunday. This brings the total number of cases to 1,144, with 1,032 recoveries and fifteen deaths. There are 97 active cases.
Drive-thru COVID-19 testing is available for Quad County residents on Wednesday, September 16 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Mills Park/Seely Loop entrance off of Saliman by Carson High in Carson City.
The test is free, no insurance information will be collected. Tests are available on a first-come, first-served basis, no appointments or reservations are necessary.

Nevada COVID-19 Cases

The State of Nevada is reporting 260 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total of confirmed cases to more than 72,800. The death toll statewide is over 1,400, according to the state’s online dashboard. Ten deaths have been reported on Friday.

Washoe County reported 58 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday. Twenty-two new recoveries have also been reported. There are now over 1,100 active cases and more than 7,900 total cases of COVID-19 in Washoe County.
The Great Reno Balloon Race Launched Its 39th Annual Event

On Friday, The Great Reno Balloon Race along with 12 local pilots, launched a small display to commemorate what would have been the organization’s 39th annual spectator event. The organization launched this display in honor of first responders and frontline workers who have worked throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
The public was not allowed to attend in person, and the organizers plan to continue with the 40th anniversary next year.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting fifteen new cases and four additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region.
This brings the total number of cases to 1,121, with 1,002 recoveries and fifteen deaths.
There is a drive-thru COVID-19 testing event for Quad-County residents today from 4-6pm at the East Fork Fire Station, 3620 Sunridge Dr. in Carson City.
Testing is free and open to residents in Carson City and Douglas, Storey and Lyon Counties.
Elko County Reports Nine New Cases Of COVID-19

Elko County is reporting nine new cases of COVID-19 and one recovery from the illness.
There are 73 active cases. Four active cases remain hospitalized.
This brings the total number of cases to 877, with 797 recoveries and seven deaths.

Trump Campaign Asks US Judge To Kill Nevada Vote-By-Mail Law

Less than eight weeks before the Nov. 3 elections, President Donald Trump's campaign is urging a federal judge in Las Vegas to block a new state law and prevent mail-in ballots from going to all active Nevada voters amid the coronavirus pandemic. Documents filed in U.S. District Court say Republicans might be confused and discouraged from voting, and confidence in the election could be undermined. Nevada has asked the court to throw out the lawsuit. The state argues that vote-by-mail does not lead to election fraud and the virus could make voting in person dangerous.
Washoe County Bars And Breweries Set To Reopen

Bars, taprooms, wineries and breweries will remain closed in Las Vegas but allowed to reopen as early as next week in the Reno-Sparks area under strict guidelines intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force said Thursday the re-openings in Washoe County will begin at 12 a.m. next Thursday, subject to the approval of minor modifications by 11:59 p.m. Wednesday The move came after about 30 local bar owners formed the Washoe County Bar/Taproom Coalition and agreed to comprehensive operating standards. The task force accepted the plan partly because the county's positive rate is below 10% and trending downward.
Trump Still Plans Nevada Visit Despite COVID-19 Rules

Republicans planned a protest Thursday night in support of their First Amendment rights as President Donald Trump moves forward with plans to campaign in Nevada this weekend despite the state's 50-person cap on public gatherings. Rallies originally planned at airport hangars in Reno and Las Vegas were scuttled due to concerns about the COVID-19 restrictions, but state Republican Chairman Michael McDonald assured reporters Trump will be in Nevada this weekend. He said details of the campaign events would be forthcoming. McDonald accused Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak of setting a double standard for Republicans and others who want to stage protests, including Black Lives Matter. Sisolak did not immediately comment.
Senator Catherine Cortez Masto Cosponsors Bill To Help Houseless Nevadans Affected By COVID-19

Nevada Democratic U.S Senator Catherine Cortez Masto is cosponsoring legislation introduced by Senator Elizabeth Warren.
The bill will authorize $11.5 billion in emergency funds to state and local governments who are helping families and individuals experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Elko County Reports A Seventh COVID-19 Death

Elko County is reporting a seventh COVID-19 death and the fourth death related to an outbreak at a skilled nursing facility. The individual was a male in his 90s who was living at Highland Manor at the time of his passing.
Elko County is also reporting three new cases and eight recoveries from COVID 19.

Washoe County Library System To Have Chromebooks Free Of Use At Libraries In Coming Weeks

The Washoe County Library System will offer outdoor resource areas with Chromebooks and Wi-Fi at eight of their locations in a couple of weeks, according to KOLO 8.
The Library System received $20,000 in CARES Act Funds and purchased 50 Chromebooks, but it is still in the planning stages.
Gamblers Factoring Virus Into Their Football Bets This Fall

There's a new factor in play for gamblers looking to bet on football this fall. In addition to point spreads, injuries and the weather, bettors are also taking the coronavirus into account before plunking down their cash. The changes to football because of the virus have led to plenty of uncertainty. Bettors are wondering if a home-field advantage exists in stadiums without fans. Also unclear is how the lack of a preseason will affect offenses and defenses. And some are wary to bet on a team's season-long performance when players could be sidelined by the virus. Despite the questions, the nation's sportsbooks say they expect a record amount of money to be bet on football this year.
