Reno Is Getting A Container Park

Construction started earlier this month to transform a long-vacant lot in downtown Reno into a community gathering spot. Our contributor Brook Bentley of the Northern Nevada Business Weekly reports.

The development is called The Eddy and will open next month as Reno's first container park, made with re-purposed shipping containers.

Co-owner Phil Buckheart says there will be an outdoor beer garden, bocce ball courts, and a lot of art, including, "a bike rack custom-made by a local artist, murals on the containers, temporary Burning Man art installations throughout the place."

The space will also be used to host farmer's markets and food trucks.

The project was delayed after receiving opposition from neighboring businesses and residents of the Riverside Artist Lofts due to concerns about noise and alcohol consumption. The Reno City Council approved the project last summer after adding several conditions to its special use permit.
