If you have an old refrigerator or freezer sitting around, there's no need to haul it off to the dump. NV Energy will buy it from you and pick it up for free. Normally the Power Company would pay $30 for your old fridge, which is still better than paying to get rid of it at the dump. But they've upped their offer to $50 if you contact them by the end of August. (Click here to go to the NV Energy page to apply for a rebate or call toll free: 1-877-289-8260) Karl Walquist with NV Energy says almost nothing goes to waste: WALQUIST: "After the freezers or refrigerators are picked up, they're sent to a recycling center located in Las Vegas. And at that center they are really completely dismantled and everything that can be recycled is recycled." They're doing this because old refrigerators and freezers use up to four times more electricity than newer models. They won't take your mini-fridge, and your unit needs to be in working order. NV Energy will only give you one rebate, but they will haul away a second refrigerator or freezer for free.
