Early Voting Starts Saturday, Find Out Where To Go

Sample ballots are in the mail and early voting for the primary election begins Saturday, May 28. Our contributor Bob Conrad of ThisisReno has the details.

Washoe County employees will be manning the polls this year to help with both early voting and the general election in November. Luanne Cutler is Washoe County's registrar of voters and says the county begins preparing for each election six months in advance.

"We've got the most county employees participating in the election this time than we've ever had, almost 100," Cutler explains.

Locally, several elected positions are up for grabs, including two contested seats on the Reno City Council. Over in Sparks, the City Council has three races underway.

“The importance here is that people don’t overlook the primary election," Cutler says. "That is so critical in determining who ultimately wins the election. Our local officials are by far as important, if not more so, than those at the federal level.”

For the Washoe County Commission, two seats are open, one of which will be decided by the primary because only two Republicans are running. And let's not forget the Washoe County School Board, which has twenty candidates vying for just four spots.

More Information:

Registered voters can begin casting their ballots for congressional, state and local races this Saturday, May 28. Early voting will run through June 10 ahead of the June 14 primary.

Washoe County has 21 early voting sites this year, open seven days a week. Exact hours and locations of each site can be found in the chart below, or by clicking here.

Most sample ballots have already been mailed out, according to the county's Registrar.

Washoe County employees will be staffing each site for both the primary and the general elections in November.
