Crews are making more progress on the Dixie Fire. Damage assessment is ongoing and teams are now able to access the fire area safely to determine the number of damaged and destroyed structures. That number is subject to change over the coming days.

Certain evacuation orders have been reduced to warnings and certain warnings have been lifted. That's allowing some residents to return to their homes and businesses. However, officials are urging all local residents to remain vigilant, as fire activity can change quickly.

The shelter at the Springs of Hope Church in Quincy is at max capacity. But other shelters are set up at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Portola, the Lassen Community College in Susanville, and Los Molinos Veterans Hall in Los Molinos.

As of this morning, the Dixie Fire has burned 1,137 square miles, and is 40% contained.

The Dixie Fire is estimated to be more than 727,000 acres and containment remains at 40 percent.

The eastern side of the fire near Janesville and Milford have remained secure. On Monday, crews working in Janesville and Milford, along with crews from the west zone, relocated to the south end of Genesee Valley to surge resources in critical areas. The fire is burning aggressively downhill in Genesee Valley.

Firefighters are also battling the fire’s edge, mopping up and patrolling structures in Taylorsville/Peters Creek. A contingency line is being constructed Monday night above Taylorsville, and if conditions allow, drones will be flying Monday night to reduce fire behavior as it comes down the hill. Aircraft are making drops as visibility allows. Contingency lines are also being constructed south of Grizzly Ridge.

In Lassen County, shelters have been set up at Springs of Hope Church in Quincy, Holy Family Catholic Church in Portola, Veterans Memorial Hall in Portola, and Lassen Community College in Susanville. The American Red Cross of Nevada also opened a shelter in Reno at 315 Record Street, and evacuees are asked to check in with a volunteer upon arrival.

Portions of Susanville remain under evacuation warnings.

Updated at 9:57 p.m.

The Dixie Fire is estimated to be more than 717,000 acres and containment remains at 36 percent.

The red flag warning that ended Saturday at 6 p.m. brought gusts of up to 30 mph to the east zone. Crews and dozers continued to engage the fire in Genesee Valley and created initial lines around the eastern perimeter, near the south end of the Walker Fire scar. Other resources continued to provide point protection in the Genesee and Taylorsville area. Wind challenged the containment line on the southeastern side of the fire near Janesville. Crews were able to provide limited air support when visibility allowed and halted forward spread. The southern edge continues back down to the north end of the Walker Fire scar, where crews are reinforcing Boulder Road.

U.S. 395 reopened Saturday around 5:45 p.m. from the junction of SR 70 to the junction of SR 36 in Lassen County. For continued updates on road closures, visit the CAL FIRE or Caltrans websites.
