Washoe County Reports Four COVID-19-Related Deaths, Testing Only Available For Symptomatic Residents

Washoe County reported four COVID-19-related deaths today, including four men, one in his 70s, two in their 80s and one in his 90s. Officials also reported 263 new cases of COVID-19 and 265 recoveries.
There have been more than 196,000 COVID-19 tests performed in the county.
The Washoe County Health District is suspending the testing of asymptomatic individuals at their testing site at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. Testing is only available to residents experiencing symptoms, people who have been deemed a close contact to someone who has tested positive and first responders.
Officials say the decision was made due to the high demand for COVID-19 testing, which has caused delays in receiving test results. A spokesperson for the health department said there isn’t a firm date for when asymptomatic testing will resume.

Multiple Schools In Washoe County Switch To Full Remote After Possible COVID-19 Exposure

Multiple public schools in Washoe County have closed for several weeks due to possible COVID-19 exposure.
Washoe Inspire Academy is on remote learning until Thursday.
Marce Herz Middle School will be on remote learning for two weeks starting today.
Marvin Picollo, a specialized school for students with disabilities, and Reed High School are on full distance learning until Monday, Nov. 30.
Bishop Manogue, a private high school, is also on full remote until Nov. 30.
The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees is set to discuss a COVID-19 community risk assessment at their meeting tonight, along with political activity in schools, nutrition services funding and rezoning in the North Valleys area, according to KTVN.

Clark County School District To Consider Reopening Campuses

The Clark County School District Board of Trustees has scheduled a meeting later this week to consider a plan to reopen schools in southern Nevada for hybrid learning during the coronavirus pandemic. Board of School Trustees President Lola Brooks said the board is set to meet virtually at 5 p.m. Thursday to discuss the 200-page plan. If approved, employees would be expected to return to work Dec. 1, and the plan would take effect in January. The plan made public by the district on Monday calls for a hybrid model of learning in which students would attend classes in person two days and online the other three days.

Nevada Reports 960 New COVID-19 Cases

The Nevada COVID-19 task force reported 960 new cases of COVID-19 across the state today.
Washoe County is reporting one new COVID-19 related death: a male in his 80s with underlying health conditions. The county is also reporting 328 new COVID-19 cases and 124 recoveries.
There are more than 3,800 active cases in Washoe and the death toll has reached 209.
Ten counties are being flagged for elevated COVID-19 transmission, including Washoe, Clark, Lyon and Douglas counties. Residents are advised to avoid gatherings with people outside their household.
A Virtual Celebration For Veterans Day

In an effort to celebrate those who have fought for our country, the City of Reno will be live-streaming a special video on Veterans Day.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the City made the decision to cancel this year's event and partner with several organizations, including the Nevada Department of Veteran Services, to broadcast the video.
This year’s celebration is commemorating the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII and the 70th anniversary of the start of the Korean War.
California Seeing Biggest Jump In Virus Cases In Months

Gov. Gavin Newsom says California is seeing a sobering increase in coronavirus cases that may be partially linked to Halloween. Eleven San Francisco Bay Area health officers are meanwhile urging residents there to quarantine for two weeks if they venture outside the region. Newsom warned Monday that coronavirus case numbers, the positivity rate, hospitalizations and intensive care cases all have reached their highest level in months. The state updates counties' progress on the state's four-tier, color-coded system each week and as a result several are expected to move Tuesday to more restrictions on how businesses can operate.

Washoe County Reports 306 Additional Cases Of COVID-19

Washoe County officials are reporting 306 additional COVID-19 cases today and 93 recoveries. This is the third day in a row the county has reported over 300 new daily cases.
There was also one COVID-19-related death reported, a man in his 60s with underlying health conditions.
There were also 125 additional COVID-19-related hospitalizations, according to county officials.
In a press release, Renown Health said Renown Regional Medical Center and Renown South Meadows Medical Center are experiencing inpatient hospital capacity challenges.
Renown is requesting a deployable medical facility, which is expected to be erected over the next week outside the Renown Regional Emergency Department. This step was also taken back in March.
There have been over 189,000 COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County.

Gov. Steve Sisolak Announces State Agencies Should Prepare For 12% Budget Cuts

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak is asking all state agencies to prepare for another round of deep budget cuts.
Sisolak is asking state agencies to create plans for cutting up to 12% from their annual budgets for fiscal years 20-21, 22 and 23.
Lawmakers already cut hundreds of millions of dollars from the state budget over the summer as state tax collections have dwindled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That's because Nevada's economy is highly dependent on tourism and gaming - industries that have suffered greatly in recent months.
In a statement, Sisolak said despite a responsible reopening of the state’s economy, Nevada continues to face significant revenue shortfalls.
Some state agencies have already started brainstorming how to offset their cuts.
At the University of Nevada, Reno, President Brian Sandoval says the school will extend its hiring freeze for the rest of the fiscal year as well as limit on-campus activity to save on utility costs.
As a note of disclosure, KUNR staff members are employees of the State of Nevada since the station's license is owned by the Board of Regents to the Nevada System of Higher Education. KUNR is also located on UNR’s campus.
COVID-19 Outbreak At Warm Springs Correctional Center In Carson City: 93 Offenders And Seven Staff Test Positive

The Nevada Department of Corrections is reporting 93 offenders and seven staff members at Warm Springs Correctional Center in Carson City have tested positive for COVID-19, according to lab results received late Thursday.
Warm Springs Correctional Center is currently in lockdown with meals delivered to each unit.
All Nevada Department of Corrections employees are tested for COVID-19 every two weeks and required to wear N95 masks at all times inside the facility. Offenders are tested every three weeks.
The department said everyone at Warm Springs Correctional Center, including all staff and the 525 offenders, will be tested for COVID-19 today and tomorrow.

Sparks Trucking Firm Gets COVID-19 Fine For Trump Jr. Rally

State regulators have fined a trucking firm in Sparks more than $4,500 for violating coronavirus restrictions on public gatherings during a political rally last month with Donald Trump Jr. that drew more than 50 people. The Department of Business and Industry, Division of Industrial Relations announced the OSHA enforcement action Thursday against the JBP Corp. doing business as Peterbilt Truck Parts & Equipment. The $4,554 fine cited the failure to submit a safety plan and obtain state approval for an event in excess of 50 people. Earlier this week, the state fined the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas $12,617 for COVID-19 violations.
Raiders Fined, Docked Pick For COVID-19 Violations

The Las Vegas Raiders and coach Jon Gruden have been fined a total $650,000 and docked a sixth-round draft pick for repeated violations of the NFL's COVID-19 protocols. A person familiar with the punishment says the team has been fined $500,000, Gruden has been docked $150,000 and the draft pick has been stripped because of how the team handled Trent Brown's positive coronavirus test last month. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made. Yahoo first reported the punishments.

Washoe County Gatherings Capped At 50, Starting At Midnight

Washoe County is reporting a new COVID-19 related death: a male in his 40s. It is unknown whether or not he had underlying health conditions. Additionally, there were 333 new COVID-19 cases and 169 recoveries reported on Thursday.
There are more than 2,800 (2,846) active cases. The death toll has risen to 205.
As a reminder, effective at midnight all public gatherings in Washoe County must be capped at 50 people. Private gatherings must remain at 10 or fewer indoors and less than 25 outdoors.
Nevada Reports 1,267 New COVID-19 Cases And 10 More Deaths

Nevada health officials on Thursday reported 1,267 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day total since mid-July, plus 10 additional deaths. It's the fifth time in less than two weeks that the state has reported more than 1,000 new coronavirus cases in a day. On July 19, Nevada reported 1,288 coronavirus cases. Nevada Department of Health and Human Services officials say six of the 10 deaths were in Clark County, the state's largest that includes metro Las Vegas. They say the total number of coronavirus cases statewide now is 105,360 since the pandemic started with 1,824 known deaths. Gov. Steve Sisolak has urged residents to follow public health guidance, including wearing face coverings, practicing social distancing, avoiding large crowds and washing hands frequently.

Washoe County reported two new deaths today caused by COVID-19. The individuals were a male in his 70s, and a male in his 90s, both of whom had underlying health conditions. The new death total is 203.
A single-day record of 377 new cases of COVID-19 was also reported. The county is now approaching 2,700 active cases and over 14,000 total cases of COVID-19. The most common activity reported in disease investigations continues to be private gatherings.
Washoe County Says Increased Cases Are Hampering Contact Tracing Efforts

The Washoe County District Health Office is reporting that increases in COVID-19 cases have hampered contact tracing efforts.
Contact tracing becomes less effective when there is wider community spread. Washoe County District Health Officer Kevin Dick says the top threshold for effective contact tracing is roughly 10 cases per 100,000. Washoe County is roughly four times higher than that threshold. Dick says that increase is having real impacts.
“We have delays with getting lab results back because of [the] volume that’s flowing to the labs. And then we have delays because of the high number of cases that we’re getting. So, contact tracing really can’t do the job when we hit the levels that we have and that’s where we really need people to be exercising the precautions and doing everything they can to prevent contracting or spreading COVID-19.”
Over the last seven-day period, there have been 187 new cases a day, which is not far from the all-time high of 197 cases within a seven-day period. In addition, Washoe County recently surpassed 200 COVID-19 related deaths.
Bishop Manogue Says 147 Students Possibly Exposed To COVID-19, Switching To Full Distance Learning

Bishop Manogue High School in Reno is switching to full-time distance learning and suspending all on-campus activities beginning Thursday because nearly 150 students were possibly exposed to COVID-19. KRNV is reporting that the school sent an email to families explaining the change.
There are currently seven active cases within the school community and 147 students are excluded due to potential exposure. The school was informed that there were several large gatherings attended by students over the weekend where COVID-19-positive and potentially COVID-19-positive individuals were in attendance. No infections are linked to on-campus exposure.
