The Board of Regents has approved plans for a new fine arts building on the UNR campus.  Danna O'Connor reports.

The center will be more than 35,000 square feet and will be built adjacent to the Church Fine Arts building, connected by a walkway.  Larry Engstrom is Director of the School of the Arts. He says that in addition to a new 300 seat rehearsal hall, there is also room for an expanded art museum.

“It’s going to be more than double the size of our current Shepherd Gallery and will have a couple of galleries within it, and will enable us to show exhibitions we have not been able to show  before,”  Engstrom said.

The fine arts building will also feature a center for digital art, practice rooms, and a recording studio. Construction starts in a year and the building should be ready for students by summer of 2018.
