On Tuesday, three of our region's governors joined 21 others to support a strong national standard for clean cars, called the "Nation's Clean Car Promise."

The agreement has three goals: reduce greenhouse gases, create regulatory certainty and preserve jobs in the auto sector.

Across the globe, more and more people are buying electric cars. That has spurred the need for lithium, which is used to make the car batteries. Financial analysts project that demand will double between 2015 and 2025.

All this has driven the Canadian-owned company Lithium Nevada to go after a massive deposit in Northern Nevada. 

Faraday Future Shows Off Speedy Model, But Concerns Loom

Upstart vehicle company Faraday Future showed its prototype electric car at the CES gadget show in Las Vegas Tuesday and promised again to have cars rolling off a new $1 billion assembly line in southern Nevada in 2018.

The  demonstration had the company's four-door, FF 91 model clocking 0-to-60 miles per hour in just under 2.4 seconds against Bentley, Ferrari and Tesla vehicles.

During the presentation, company executive Nick Sampson didn't say when construction would resume at the factory where work was suspended in November.

Tesla Motors unveiled its new mid-luxury electric car at an event in Los Angeles Thursday night.  Dubbed the Model 3, the starting price tag is $35,000, or about half the cost of the company’s previous models.

Tesla Exec Announces Internship For Nevada Gigafactory

  A top Tesla executive stopped by the University of Nevada, Reno, Sunday to talk about the future of transportation and battery technology. As Reno Public Radio's Julia Ritchey reports, the company is ramping up construction at its new gigafactory in northern Nevada.

Tesla's co-founder and Chief Technical Officer J.B. Straubel says the first employees will begin work at its gigafactory outside of Reno in just a few weeks.

"Construction here has moved extremely fast; it's part of why we wanted to be in Nevada in the first place," he says.
