Coworking Space Caters To Beauty Industry

Co-working spaces are usually devoted to tech startups, but The Design Hub, in MidTown Reno, is different.

Local graphic designer Pattie Sennert opened The Design Hubearlier this year when she realized there was a need for salon workers to have easy access to space.

“We rent space by day, week, and month to cosmo students who are just out of school, or people who are in between things, or just moved to the area and don’t know where to go yet.”

Sennert has spent the past several months making the Design Hub as self-service as possible so that students who have just gotten their license can start working right away.

“Or if they got laid off from one salon and they don’t have time to find a new space but they’ve got full clientele tomorrow they can call me, I can give them the door code and they can go right in and work the next day.”

The Design Hub is the first beauty-focused co-working space in the country, which makes sense given that Reno is home to more than 1,000 full-time cosmetology students who will all be looking for space come graduation day.
