Reno and Sparks Chamber of Commerce

After past differences, the Reno/Sparks and Latino business chambers are merging. Our contributor Kaleb Roedel of the Northern Nevada Business View reports.

With the merger, a member of the existing Latin American Chamber will be nominated to sit on the board of the Reno/Sparks Chamber and work with a committee that seeks to specifically promote Latino businesses and events.

It's a framework of inclusion that Latino business owners did not feel was there previously. The two organizations have been combined in the past, but in 2013, the chamber eliminated its satellite office on Wells Avenue serving Hispanic members. It also ended a monthly special committee meeting representing those members.

Ann Silver is chief executive officer of the Reno/Sparks Chamber now. She says the organization should represent all businesses to promote economic vitality.
