A group of Washoe County middle school teachers recently gathered for a hands-on STEM training program. KUNR contributor Kaleb Roedel of the Northern Nevada Business View has more.

The training was part of Project ReCharge, which has a variety of sponsors in both the private and public sectors.

It gives teachers the curriculum and classroom resources needed to teach students technical skills, such as magnetism and circuits. The students then create solutions for an energy problem at their school. Ultimately, the project focuses on energy generation, consumption and efficiency.

To date, the program has provided about 100 teachers more than 5,000 hours of professional development and more than $200,000 in classroom resources.
