Nevada's unemployment rate fell to 9.5 percent in May, which is the lowest it has been since 2008. The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation says that the rate is down one-tenth of a percentage point from April. State economist Bill Anderson says cautious optimism in Nevada's economy is attracting more people to the work force. He says the labor force grew 1,100 jobs in May. The rate in the Reno-Sparks area fell from 9.7 percent to 9.2 percent. And Carson City's unemployment dropped from 10.1 to 9.5, although those figures are not yet seasonally adjusted. Governor Sandoval says employers still remain cautious about hiring and that there's more work to be done. Nevada's U.S. Senator Dean Heller says he's pleased to hear more people are getting back to work and that federal legislation has a role to play. Just yesterday, the Lyon County job bill, which would create 1,300 jobs mostly for the mining industry, made it out of committee and will now be heading to the full Senate for consideration. Under the bill, Pumpkin Hollow mining project and the City of Yerington would acquire 12,500 acres of BLM land.
