Conservatives Aim Barbs At Clinton During Basque Fry

Julia Ritchey

Several high profile Republicans took sharp aim at Hillary Clinton during the 2nd annual Basque Fry hosted by Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt.
More than 1,200 people gathered under large outdoor tents at the scenic Corley Ranch in Gardnerville over the weekend.

Attendees noshed on lamb chops, signed up for candidate mailing lists and snapped selfies with conservative rising stars like Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton and Sheriff David Clarke of Milwaukee.

John Bolton, the former U.N. ambassador during the Bush administration, spoke about what he called Democrats' failed foreign policy.

"Everything she touched on Barack Obama's behalf, has turned to ash. And you can see it from one part of the world to the other."

Bolton and other speakers said they supported Trump, but focused most of their attention on Clinton's perceived shortcomings.

Madeline Armstrong of Reno, first in line to try a lamb testicle, says she thinks Trump's rhetoric has hurt him in the polls.

"He is a very abrupt talker, and it's very interesting. I think it has created some divisiveness, because people are not open minded."

It wasn't just a busy weekend for Republicans. Democratic Sen. Al Franken of Minnesota campaigned for Clinton on Saturday in Reno and Carson City. It was also announced that Clinton herself will be in Reno this Thursday.
