The famous clarity that Lake Tahoe is known for isn't so clear today, as hazardous levels of smoke and ash blanket the area, due to the nearby Caldor Fire.

CAL FIRE says erratic winds in valleys and canyons helped to spark new spot fires, and push the blaze northeast toward Tahoe. The Associated Press is reporting the Caldor Fire is now just 20 miles from Lake Tahoe.

Crews were able to make some progress though. The blaze is 11% contained as of this morning. So far, the blaze has burned more than 197 square miles. That's bigger than the size of Lake Tahoe itself.
