The Greater Nevada Field is a unique shared space that houses the Reno Aces baseball team and Reno’s forthcoming soccer team.

During last night’s test run, international clubs squared off in a friendly match. Standing among 1000’s of fans Aces President, Eric Edelstein (ed-uhl-steen), says the turnout shows how much local interest there is in the sport.

“By looking at the crowd and seeing how many folks are here tonight, there is a soccer culture already in Reno and we’re just gonna give them a place to unite.”

"Ladies and Gentleman, it's my honor to award the 28th franchise of the United Soccer League to Reno, Nevada *applause, fireworks*"

The new team will begin playing at the ballpark downtown in 2017, overlapping some with the baseball season.

This team is part of the United Soccer League, a third-tier professional organization with clubs across the U.S. and Canada, including one in nearby Sacramento.

With the season down to just a dozen games and the Reno Aces chasing the Sacramento River Cats for a playoff berth, Aces' Chief Operating Officer Eric Edelstein visited with David Stipech on KUNR's Beyond the Headlines.
