Nevada Democratic Congressional Candidate Chip Evans held a veterans’ town hall event in Sparks last night. It comes on the heels of a similar event last month from his opponent Mark Amodei.

Evans greeted and addressed a crowd of more than a dozen people, most of them veterans, who showed up to discuss the issues most affecting those who have served in the military.
Matthew Sturm was in the Navy from 1984 to 1999 and he says what he wants is pretty simple.
“I’d like to see more assistance for homeless vets," he says, "better voc rehab, a bed, under a roof.”
Evans focused primarily on his idea that privatized healthcare for veterans isn’t effective, instead proposing more public investment.
“There’s a disconnect between the language of ‘I want to support veterans,’ and they even go so far as every now and then passing bills that support veterans. And then they don’t fund them,” Evans says. “There’s a fundamental difference going on right now between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party on whether we fund the needed services, particularly for our veterans.”
Evans is running against Republican incumbent Mark Amodei, who has held the congressional seat in District 2 since 2011, a post that has always been held by a Republican.
