Douglas County Ranked Healthiest In Nevada

Alexa Ard

A recent report looking at the overall health of counties in Nevada, ranked Douglas County as the healthiest in state. Mineral County came in last and Washoe was third.

The report is put out every year by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin.

"We are ranking communities on factors that they can do something about, so community leaders can look closely at the rankings in their county and find common ground and pinpoint actions that can improve health," says report spokeswoman Raquel Bournhonesque.

The report looked at dozens of factors, including measures of physical health but also health behaviors, clinical care, social and economic factors, and the physical environment.

Nevada as a whole ranks lower than the national median on high school graduation, violent crime and housing, but it does better on keeping people from getting re-admitted to the hospital for preventable reasons.
