Mackay Stadium Shows Off New Improvements

More than $11.5 million worth of widely-anticipated Mackay Stadium renovations at the University of Nevada are open to the public. Reno Public Radio's Marcus Lavergne reports.

Notable new features of the stadium include an 8,000 square-foot club level, which can be rented out for different events throughout the year as well as a new multi-million dollar video-sound system, a long awaited improvement.

Funding for these additions and others was approved by the Board of Regents back in 2014. Mackay went through final inspections before last week's first Wolf Pack football game.

$400,000 also went to transforming the worn track circling Chris Ault Field, a product of the late 90's, into a new 400-meter, silver and blue surface. It's joined by new field facilities for jumping and throwing events.

Nevada Athletic's Director Doug Knuth has also voiced plans to build public indoor tennis courts.

He says the project needs funding, but should be underway in the near future.
