Nevada Humanities is proud to be a part of “60 Years of Stories”—Downtown Reno Library’s after-hours event celebrating the library’s 60th anniversary on Saturday, May 9.
At 6:30 pm, Nevada Humanities will present a screening of A Black Springs Homecoming: Finding History—produced by Nevada Humanities and directed by Tsanavi Spoonhunter. The film tells the story of Black Springs—a small, historically African American neighborhood six miles north of downtown Reno, Nevada—and the ability of its residents to establish an enduring sense of community in the face of widespread racial discrimination and economic hardship.
The 27-minute film will be followed by a conversation and Q&A with historians Alicia Barber, Demetrice Dalton, and Helen Townsell. This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:00 pm.

The band takes audiences on an energetic rock n roll musical journey from the 1960’s through the 1970s. Their performances are filled with the iconic messages of hope, peace and love from one of music’s most iconic eras. The music is just plain good old Rock n Roll.Down the Rabbit Hole features rich vocal harmonies, and a band that really rocks out, making musical events unique and memorable! The band is known for getting people dancing right away and grooving to the music. Down the Rabbit Hole has twice performed in the Tahoe/Truckee area and has played for enthusiastic crowds at many other major events in the area.In fall of 2023 Down the Rabbit hole was voted the Number One Band for the Truckee and North Lake Tahoe region in the Sierra Suns Best Of awards.

Join us every Monday for Volunteer Tool Time at 635 E 4th St, where community members come together to help keep Reno rolling! From 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, volunteers assist with stripping bikes, fixing kids and burning man bikes, and supporting our mission to make cycling more accessible for everyone.
On the first Monday of each month, we also host a special evening session from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, perfect for those who can’t make it during the day or want a little extra wrenching time.
Whether you’re an experienced mechanic or totally new to bike tools, you’re welcome here. We’ll guide you, teach you, and work alongside you as we support our community together.
