Apr 26 Sunday
Join Nevada Humanities for an afternoon of creativity and reflection. Begin by personalizing your own journal with provided stickers, markers, and collage materials. Next, add to your journal through free-writing prompts on themes related to food, community, and shared traditions. The workshop will conclude with an optional group sharing activity.
Whether you love to craft, enjoy journaling, or have never tried either, allow your creativity to flow through communal crafting and personal reflection. Slow down and intentionally connect with your thoughts and create a special object you can come back to again and again.
Journals and crafting supplies will be provided; participants are welcome to bring their own journals and supplies.
Space for this event is limited, and registration is required. Free while supplies last.
Nevada Humanities acknowledges Arts for All Nevada for their support of this program.
Around the Table programming is produced by Nevada Humanities as part of the national initiative By the People: Conversations Beyond 250, which is a series of community-driven programs created by humanities councils in collaboration with local partners, and was developed by the Federation of State Humanities Councils and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
In celebration of National Poetry Month, join Nevada Humanities and the Bristlecone General Store in Baker for a weekend of creativity and connection! Led by Katie Karnehm-Esh, Humanities Center Coordinator at Great Basin College, these workshops embrace Nevada’s alluring landscape and your creative powers.
On Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, explore forms of prose poetry and flash nonfiction using selections from Sagebrush to Sandstone and images from Nevada landscapes! Participants will craft short pieces that combine the language of poetry with the form of prose. This workshop will build on Saturday's workshop, but can be taken on its own. Participants might want to bring photographs, etc., to use as inspiration.

Misinformation isn’t just a media problem. It’s a community problem. When trust in journalism erodes, it weakens the shared understanding we need to make decisions together, from local policy to public health.
Truth Decay is the term researchers use for the diminishing role of facts and analysis in public life. This event brings together local journalists, media scholars, and your community to explore what’s happening, why it matters, and what we can do about it.
Whether you’re a news junkie, a sceptic of all things media, or somewhere in between, this evening is designed for you. Expect thoughtful discussion, practical tools for evaluating information, and the chance to ask our expert panel your toughest questions, including:
