4:53 p.m. PT | November 23, 2020

The Mountain View Fire in Mono county is 70 percent contained. The other 30 percent is under snow, which is assisting in extinguishing the fire. The remaining visible smoke is from individual trees within the secured fire perimeter.

5:59 p.m. PT | November 22, 2020

The evacuation order for the Mountain View Fire was lifted Sunday morning at 8 a.m. for the Walker area. Residents are asked to use the reentry site on 395 and Eastside Lane.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mono County is opening a Local Assistance Center at the Antelope Valley Community Center.

For residents requiring shelter assistance, the Temporary Evacuation Point is at the Carson Valley Inn.

The Mountain View Fire has burned a little over 20,000 acres and is 65% contained.

Fire activity within the perimeter is minimal, and there are a few small areas that are still smoldering. Firefighters are continuing to mop up these hotspots.

The Mountain View Fire in Mono County remains at 20% containment and is still 20,879 acres, according to InciWeb.

The Bureau of Land Management California and the Mono County Sheriff’s Office are reporting that this is the most destructive fire in the county in recent memory. It has displaced almost all residents in Walker and Coleville. One civilian has died due to the fire and the State of California has proclaimed a state of emergency.

Officials are also asking for continued patience from those who are still evacuated because hazardous materials, live power lines, and potentially compromised water supplies remain within the fire perimeter. You can find more updates here.

10:31 a.m. PT | Nov. 19, 2020

In Mono County, U.S. 395 is now open where the Mountain View Fire has swelled to more than 20,000 acres. It is 20 percent contained at this time.  There has been one fatality and one injury, and eighty structures have burned.

Mandatory evacuations are still in effect for approximately 400 people, according to InciWeb. An evacuation center is up at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. 

Wildland fire crews are focused on protecting Walker, Coleville, Topaz and the Camp Antelope Native American community.

4:59 p.m. PT | Nov. 18, 2020

In Mono County, U.S. 395 is open, where the Mountain View Fire has swelled to more than 28,000 acres. No containment at this time.  A Bureau of Land Managementupdate mentions that there has been one  report of a civilian fatality, which is under investigation, and eighty structures have burned. The Mono County Sheriff’s Office is providing updates here.

Mandatory evacuations are still in effect for approximately 800 residents in the communities of Coleville, Walker and Topaz. An evacuation center is up at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. 

Wildland fire crews are focused on protecting Walker, Coleville, Topaz and the Camp Antelope Native American community. Crews hope to keep the fire east of U.S. Hwy 395, south of Risue Canyon, west of Desert Creek and north of Mill Canyon Road.

The Laura 2 Fire in Doyle, California is now up to 2,000 acres. Morning rain helped to slow down the fire's spread in eastern California.  95% of the perimeter is contained. The blaze has impacted an estimated 19 homes and some 30 outbuildings.

1:54 p.m. PT | Nov. 18, 2020

In Mono County, the Mountain View Fire has swelled to more than 28,000 acres, with no containment at this time.

Morning rain and snow helped fire crews, but strong winds are continuing to push the blaze east into Nevada. The area near Walker, California is under a wind advisory through 6:00 this evening.

According to KRNV, the fire is growing into southern Douglas and Lyon counties.

Mandatory evacuations are in effect for the communities of Coleville, Walker and Topaz. An evacuation center has been set up at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden.

U.S. 395 remains closed from Bridgeport to the Nevada state line.

The Laura 2 Fire in Doyle, California is up to 2,000 acres, and fire crews have 70% containment. Morning rain has helped to slow down the fire spread in eastern California.

The blaze has impacted an estimated 20 structures, including homes.

Mandatory evacuations are in progress for scattered residences in Turtle Mountain, Fish Springs and Flannigan. An evacuation center has been set up at Diamond Mountain Hotel in Susanville.

The post offices in Doyle and Chilcoot have reopened as of this morning.

8:59 a.m. PT | Nov. 18, 2020

In Mono County, rain is helping to battle the Mountain View Fire, but strong winds are continuing to push the blaze east into Nevada. The area near Walker, California is under a wind advisory through 6 p.m.

According to KRNV, the fire is growing into southern Douglas and Lyon counties.

A crew from Southern California has been ordered to help fight the blaze.

The blaze has burned 5,000 acres so far.

Mandatory evacuations are in effect for the communities of Coleville, Walker and Topaz. An evacuation center has been set up at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden.

U.S. 395 remains closed from Bridgeport to the Nevada state line.

Additionally, the Laura Fire in Doyle, California has burned roughly 600 acres and impacted an estimated 20 structures. The blaze has moved into public lands. The Bureau of Land Management says the fire is 70% contained.

Mandatory evacuations are in progress for residences in Turtle Mountain, Fish Springs and Flannigan. An evacuation center has been set up at Diamond Mountain Hotel in Susanville.

Officials say morning rain should help keep the blaze from growing, but strong winds are still expected for portions of today.

8:14 p.m. PT | Nov. 17, 2020

For the I-80 brushfire near the Derby Dam exit, the interstate is set to open one westbound lane at approximately 11 p.m. Tuesday. All of the eastbound lanes are currently open, according to Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue. Forward progress has been stopped for this fire.

For the Mountain View Fire in Mono County, U.S. Hwy 395 is temporarily closed from Emigrant Street in Bridgeport to the Nevada State Route 208 in both directions. Mandatory evacuation orders are still in effect for the areas of Coleville, Walker and Topaz.

The fire that started in Lassen County near Doyle, Calif., has impacted an estimated 20 structures. The fire has burned onto BLM public land east of Doyle. Mandatory evacuations are still in place for the areas of Turtle Mountain, Fish Springs and Flannigan. There is an evacuation center established at Diamond Mountain Hotel in Susanville.

The fire burning near Doyle, Calif., has burned 600 acres and is 70% contained. The fire is burning on public lands East of Doyle, according to the Bureau of Land Management California.  

Mandatory evacuations are in place for Turtle Mountain, Fish Springs and Flannigan. 

The Mountain View Fire in Mono County has burned 5,000 acres near the community of Walker. Mandatory evacuations are still in place for Walker from Eastside Lane to Topaz Lake.

Douglas County tweeted that the voluntary evacuations have been lifted for the fire in the Foothill area. Mottsville remains closed as of right now but is expected to open soon.

Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue is reporting a 15-acre brush fire, located on both sides of I-80 westbound near the Derby Dam exit. Officials say to expect delays and avoid the area.

Douglas County is also reporting a fire in the Foothills area. Officials say voluntary evacuations are in place for Apple Creek, Foothill and Mottsville. Surrounding areas are being asked to remain vigilant because conditions are subject to change. Officials are asking drivers to find an alternative route.

4:13 p.m. PT | Nov. 17, 2020

For #MountainViewFire near Walker in Mono County, mandatory evacuations are in place for Walker from Eastside Lane to Topaz Lake. The Mono County Sheriff's Office says it is a lawful order to leave now. The office says the Carson Valley Inn is a temporary evacuation point.

For the fire burning nearDoyle, Calif., the Bureau of Land Management California is telling residents if you need shelter assistance, please call 530-250-9088.

The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office has lifted all evacuation orders for Chilcoot, Vinton and the Frenchman Lake corridor and says an air attack helped hold the fire in that area south of Highway 70 at about 20 acres.

The Red Cross is opening an evacuation center at the Washoe County Senior Center located on East 9th Street in Reno for those impacted by the fire located near Pinehaven Road in the Caughlin Ranch area of Reno.

NV Energy has cut power to areas near the Caughlin Ranch fire. You can find the latest updates on power outages here.

Caughlin Ranch Elementary is also currently on a precautionary code yellow lockdown because of the fire. School police are responding to the elementary school, but the school is not currently threatened by the wildfire that started around 1 p.m.

Parents do not need to go pick up their children.

3:09 p.m. PT | Nov. 17, 2020

KRNV is reporting dozens of structures are currently threatened by the fire burning near Pinehaven Road. Multiple are under evacuations, including Sierra Pine Dr., Mountainshyre Dr., Chaparral Dr., Ridgeview Ct. from Bella Sierra Ct. and Vista View, areas southeast of Manzanita and around Lake Stanley, Skyline Blvd. and Cashill Blvd.

Several additional evacuation notices are in effect for the fire burning near Pinehaven Road, according to the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.

For the fire burning near Pinehaven Road and Sierra Pine Drive above Caughlin Ranch, KRNV is reporting that at least one home is on fire in Caughlin Ranch.

There are several fires burning in northern Nevada and California. 

The Reno Fire Department tweeted that a brush fire started near Pinehaven Road and Sierra Pine Drive, above Caughlin Ranch, and structures are currently threatened. 

Multiple media outlets are reporting that there are evacuations for the area near Pinehaven Road and Mountainshyre Road.

Both directions of McCarran Boulevard are shut down near Caughlin Parkway, according to NDOT.

There is a high wind warning into the early evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Additionally, the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office has issued a mandatory evacuation notice for Vinton and Chilcoot due to afire.

The Mono County Sheriff’s office has also issued an evacuation order in the Walker community from Eastside Lane to Topaz Lane, due to the Mountain View Fire. Officials say Highway 395 is closed from Eastside Lane to Larsen.

Wildland firefighters are also responding to a different fire, called Laura2, northwest of Reno, according to the Bureau of Land Management. There are no known evacuations for this fire at this time.

Lastly, about 400 acres are burning in and near the town of Doyle, Calif. Strong gusts of wind also pushed the fire across Highway US 395 and is now burning in a northeastern direction toward the BLM Fort Safe Area and Nevada border, according to the Bureau of Land Management.
