A Trump campaign rally in Reno planned for this weekend has been canceled because the event would violate the state's COVID-19 restrictions, and Nevada officials aren't backing down on efforts to control the virus.
Trump was supposed to speak at a private hangar at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport Saturday.
The president’s campaign is blaming Democrats for the cancellation, but the airport authority says the rally would have violated the state’s 50-person limit on gatherings.
Washoe County Health Officer Kevin Dick says the limit is in place for a reason.
“We still have elevated levels of disease transmission occurring, and by not allowing those large gatherings, we're really protecting our citizens, we're protecting our economy, and our ability to keep businesses open,” Dick said.
The president will still travel to Nevada, but the campaign has not released details about the trip.
