The fall gala season for A.V.A. Ballet Theatre opens with the classic ballet The Little Mermaid on September 20th and 21st at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. Choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, The Little Mermaid is the captivating story of the beautiful mermaid and her dreams of becoming a human. A dashing prince, a sea witch, crabs, and jovial eels have starring roles in this fantasy adventure. This classic story is filled with mesmerizing dance, intrigue, and is fun for the entire family. The Reno Phil with Laura Jackson as the conductor will perform the exciting score.
The Saturday September 20th performance will be held at 7pm and the Sunday September 21st performance will be at 2pm. Ticket prices for adults are $30 to $60 with discounts for seniors and children. A.V.A. Ballet Theatre is the resident ballet company of the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. They are northern Nevada's largest company under the instruction of a professional faculty with years of performing experience in renowned metropolitan ballet and production companies across the United States and Europe.
This production is made possible with generous grants from the E.L. Cord Foundation, the Arthur and Mae Orvis Foundation, the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

SWS's newest exhibit, "Painting Outside the Box" features new, innovative watercolor paintings by local artist, for sale or just to enjoy. An Artists Reception will be held on Saturday September 27 from 3:30-6:00PM. All are welcome to come and meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments while viewing the exhibit.. Appropriate for people of all ages and abilities.
